Teaching and Preaching: 1 Pet 4:11, 1 Thess 2:13.Bible: God’s story comes to us through the narrative of the bible, as we get to know God’s story we get to know what is on his heart and allows God to speak to us.Prayer: we need to tune into hearing from God personally. The word of prophecy is one way that God speaks to us he also speaks to us through: In fact Joel 2:28-29 shows us God’s response to a heart that is soft toward Him. Joel 2:12-13 identifies that which God is seeking, a heart that is repentant. The people had begun to drift away from following God, they had begun to slumber spiritually and Joel shares the word of the Lord to them, Joel 1:2-12, then in v13-20 we see a call to repentance. Joel gives us a good example of the role of the Prophet. The Prophets were judged in the Old Testament by their fruit, godliness, obedience to the commands of God, the accuracy of the word and whether the word was fulfilled or not. As we have seen recently, the purpose of the Prophet was to speak the heart and mind of God to those around them, not just to predict the future. God spoke to and through the Prophets who spoke God’s message not their own.

In the Old Testament the concept of the Prophet is ‘one called (by God) to speak for God.
